Eric’s career is grounded in hands-on operational expertise. In 2003, he founded Newman Marine, Inc., an independent marine risk management firm supporting insurance carriers and pharmaceutical and high-technology manufacturers with specialized loss prevention and risk advisory services. Earlier in his career, Eric sailed as a USCG-licensed merchant marine officer aboard ocean-going commercial cargo vessels, giving him first-hand insight into the real-world risks clients face every day.
After transitioning ashore, Eric spent 15 years as an independent marine cargo surveyor and consultant, conducting complex insurance surveys and inspections across ocean, air, road, and rail shipments, as well as storage and distribution environments. He also completed extensive training in large property/HPR loss prevention and compliance audits of 3PL facilities handling high-value commodities. This experience continues to inform his practical, solutions-oriented approach.
A graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a BA in Marine Transportation, Eric remains deeply engaged in advancing industry standards. He serves on the Board of Advisors for the Pharmaceutical Cargo Security Coalition (PCSC), is an active member of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) and the Coalition of New England Companies for Trade and is Co-Chairman of the Mariner’s Club of Massachusetts. He also serves on the Board of Advisors for the International Maritime Business program at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Eric has presented globally on temperature-controlled distribution, GDP regulatory compliance, shipping qualification, supply chain security, and best practices in shipping and handling. He has authored numerous industry articles and contributed to key GDP guidance documents.
Known for his pragmatic expertise and client-first mindset, Eric helps organizations move beyond reactive risk management toward smarter, more resilient supply chain strategies.
