Mike Falvey

John Michael (Mike) Falvey, Founder and CEO of Falvey Insurance Group, is a 1978 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Following his graduation, he worked with Affiliated FM Insurance as a cargo underwriter.

In 1979, he went to sea with various shipping companies and eventually joined the U.S. Military Sea­Lift Command where he served as First Assistant Engineer on board MSC vessels providing fleet support for the U.S. Navy. From 1983 to 1984 he was the Liaison Officer to the Royal Fleet Auxiliary in London. In 1984 he joined Donald J. Rojas, Inc. in Warwick, Rhode Island and served as an underwriter from 1984 to 1995.

In 1995, he started Falvey Cargo Underwriting, Ltd., a covernote facility of Lloyd’s. The company specializes in providing marine cargo cover for the high tech and life science industries. It is the largest cargo covernote facility in Lloyd’s. He has grown that company since its inception to a multidiscipline insurance group including Falvey Cargo Underwriting, Falvey Shippers Insurance, Falvey Insurance Services, LLC, and Safe Harbor Pollution Insurance, LLC all under the umbrella of Falvey Insurance Group. The company also has a reinsurance company in Bermuda, Falvey Insurance Company, Ltd.

Mike holds the following insurance disciplines: Charted Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Risk Management (ARM) and Associates in Marine Insurance Management (AMIM).

In 2020, Mike graduated from Harvard Business School OPM 55.
