Vessel Pollution Claims Process

At Falvey Insurance Group, customer services always comes first. When customers report spills, we take action immediately by using a unique, two-pronged approach to the vessel pollution claims process. Here’s how we do it.

Response

Broker or assured submits a vessel pollution claim via (877) 397-9252 or claims@safeharborpollution.com

Information that may be requested:

  • Contact information
  • Name of vessel
  • Location
  • Type of oil spilled
  • Amount of Oil Spilled (if known)

Next, a regional spill manager is assigned to the claim. Falvey Insurance Group has the largest spill response network in the vessel pollution market, which has proved to result in highly succesful response effrts.

Falvey, in conjunction with our spill manager, will contact the assured and determine the potential damage by assessing: physical location, amount of product spilled, and type of product spilled.

Falvey Insurance Group assists the assured in managing pollution mitigation assets.

Then, the spill response and clean up efforts are managed by a team of Falvey Insurance Group’s Spill Managers overseen by the incident command, which includes: U.S. Coast Guard’s Federal Coordinator (highest authority), State Coordinator, then the vessel owner.

Claims Adjustment

While claims adjusting technically follows the spill response efforts, Falvey Insurance Group handles most claims from as soon as a report is received until the entire process concludes.

After this, customers receive immediate assistance in the first crucial moments of the incident. Then, due diligence is performed up front, simplifying the settlement process. Relayed information is then confirmed to be correct and up to date.

After these motions, the claims adjuster works with the on-site spill coordinators to determine invoice language. No information is added at a late date, and the claim is confirmed to be with policy coverage limits. Once the covered vessel pollution claims are cleared, they are paid as soon as possible.
