Earlier this month, Falvey held its annual, company-wide winter meetings with the theme of “Built For Unpredictability – It’s In Our DNA.” Completely virtual, team members from every subsidiary and department presented about the challenges and results Falvey experienced during this very different year, as well as plans for 2021. Here is a quick recap of what happened during the week:

The Meetings

  • Opening Meeting: We kicked everything off by reviewing the agenda for the week, as well as taking a high-level look back at 2020. The session included a review of our org chart, new hires (19 in the past year alone), promotions, and volunteer efforts.
  • Department Business Plans: Managers of each department or business unit presented their goals for 2021 to their teams.
  • Speaker Series: For three of the five days, subject matter experts held breakout sessions on topics that ranged from trade associations and customer journeys to GDR regulations and the COVID-19 supply chain. There were 12 total topics for the week, organized on beginner and intermediate tracks.
  • Marketing Plans: Our marketing team presented their 2021 plans for each team, as well as reviewed the proper use of the Falvey Insurance Group brand.
  • LinkedIn Learning: Falvey considers itself “a learning organization” and has always put an emphasis on professional development. For 2021, we invested in a new HR tool called LinkedIn Learning, which we introduced during this week’s meetings. All employees will have assigned and elective courses to complete throughout the year in an effort to bring more structure and consistency to our trainings.
  • Town Hall: Each manager presented to the entire team about their department’s 2021 plans.
  • Closing Meeting: To wrap up, we gathered everyone to recap the week’s happenings, present team highlights and notable statistics from 2020, introduce Falvey’s 2021 strategy and department goals, and announce the winners of fun contests we held each day. We also presented the Inaugural Helm Award to Eric Newman, Senior VP of Protecht. The recipient of this award is someone who exhibits servant leadership in the face of challenges, which Eric truly embodies.

The Fun Stuff

Because of the virtual format, we made a huge effort to keep everyone engaged and connected online. Here’s some of the fun we had:

  • Holiday Spirit Week: Each day of the week was themed, including Holiday Socks Day, Mad About Plaid Day, Ugly Sweater Day, and Festive Face Masks Day.
  • Team Meals: Catering was delivered to everyone’s house on Tuesday and Wednesday through GrubHub.
  • Kids Party: Santa visited the kid’s via Zoom to hear their wish lists and give them gifts. He also virtually delivered a gingerbread house as a fun family activity.
  • Virtual Paint Night: Team members received a paint kit at their home and participated in a group virtual art activity.

Overall, the message communicated to our team throughout the week was one of antifragility and structuring the business to not just survive, but thrive in the midst of chaos. And the feedback from our employees to date has shown that this was one of our best Winter Meetings yet.
